Wine Routes in Slovakia Every Gourmand Must Take
The largest of all the wine regions here is the Carpathian region in Western Slovakia, vineyards covering the south eastern belt of mountains, and the neighborhood towns of Hlohovec and Skalica. Malokarpatská vínna cesta is a tourism initiative to protect the Small Carpathian viticulture region, designed by the Slovak ministry of Agriculture. One third size of the total vineyard area in Slovakia is in the Carpathian region covering 7304 hectares. Established in 1995 by the Carpathian Wine Route Association, it helped to elevate Slovak culture to a whole new level by accentuating the tourism business, uniting and encouraging the winemakers and also develop the Carpathian region in entirety. There is a constant initiative of promoting the vine traditions, through vigorous marketing and educational activities and with consistent events focusing the promotions of wines and vintners.

Nitrianska vínna cesta and Nitrianska kráľovská vínna cesta were the two first bodies to introduce an association of 19 municipalities which has extended throughout the Nitra region at present with an active involvement of the winemakers. The climate of the Nitra Region is well suited for the production of wine grapes, being blessed with good number of sunny days. The Vintners enjoy a high quality production of wines as a result. The Nitra Royal Wine Route earned its name from the royal court, where the wines were produced and served. This is the longest route of wine in Slovakia, built from many other adjoining routes. The four different routes are: the Upper Nitra Route, The Tekove Route, the Southern Slovak Route and the Považská Route, all of the four routes lead to the Nitra.

There has been a long term dispute between Slovakia and Hungary over the Slovak part of Tojak region, as they use the same name for the wine production.
