Noteworthy Nitra Castle: Oldest In Slovak Territory

Nitra is of the part of dominant and oldest Slovak town also called the castle of Nitra. It was built back in the 11th century on the site of a bulky Slav fort, which was the site of Nitra Princedom and the Great Moravian rulers, however at the present day it is the seat of the Bishopric of Nitra. Nitra has not drawn too many tourists earlier probably because of the continuous sacking from thousand years back and even in the recent past during the World War II. But Nitra has its own charm to please the wanderers.

Experience multiple times unfolding in the ruins of Romanesque Church of St Emeram
The core of the castle of Nitra is the cathedral holding a Bishop residence. While you step inside walk into the oldest part of the Cathedral, the Romanesque Church of St Emeram dated back from the early 11th and 12th century. This was however rebuilt in the mid 13th century to be destroyed by the Matus Caks soldiers which was architected into a new Gothic Church in the year 1317. Time and again being renovated it is open for the travelers to set their foot and absorb the unwinding deep rooted historic episodes.

Surrounding quaint upper town and modern lower town
The cathedral is besieged by the upper town with many churches, seminaries and even the cobblestone streets; calm, solemn and pleasantly picturesque making your visit worthwhile. The lower town is quirky and modern with ubiquitous bars and cafes that are quite refreshing.

The Upper Church was built sometime between 1333 and 1335 and only three centuries from then the Lower Church was constructed. There is an interconnecting wide staircase bridging the two. The cathedral with its interiors that we see today is from what was designed in the years 1710-1736. One of the most precious monument inside it would be the altar at the Lower Church that was crafted by a famous Austrian Sculptor called J. Pernegger inspiring his art from the painting of D. Voltera.

This city is connected well by roads with a direct motorway enrooted to Bratislava, however getting here by the railway will call for some adventures if you are seeking for. One of the most valuable structures of this area is called the Bishops Cathedral that obtained its Late Baroque appeal from the second half of the 18th century. What will draw your attention is the interesting contrast of the outer fortifications with oldest part of the Romanesque period.

The Vazilova Veza
This legendary tower boasting a square ground plan was built time and again and adapted in the Romantic fashion. Going by the past records it is also believed that the Hungarian Prince Vazul was imprisoned in this tower of

Vazilova Veza
This cathedral is dedicated to the Emeram, the seventh century bishop. Archaeologists report there to be an amalgamation of three religious structures and one of which may be a seven century Frankish church that is much before the Great Moravian Empire of Prince Rastilav. Breathe an air of mystical mysterious and extraordinarily with awe inspiring site at the castle of Nitra, treasured in the city centre on a hill, a little away from the Zupny Dom.
